Adeola Olafikun, a Nigerian native who has called Foxboro home for the past seven years, recently launched Twisted Mind, a film tackling themes of trust, betrayal, and blackmail. The project is available on YouTube via RoyalArts TV and is already gaining traction with audiences familiar with Nollywood-style storytelling.

Olafikun served not only as the film’s executive producer but also its screenwriter, casting director, and production coordinator. The project was developed under her own creative brand, LydiaBecca Production, which she founded to elevate African voices and create opportunities for diverse talent.

The story is deeply personal and culturally resonant. “I wanted to create something honest something people could see themselves in, no matter where they’re from,” Olafikun said.

Twisted Mind follows a fractured family entangled in lies and manipulation, and it explores how even the tightest bonds can be tested by secrets.

The filmmaker hopes her journey from Ekiti State, Nigeria, to Massachusetts can inspire others particularly women and creatives from immigrant backgrounds to tell their own stories.

Twisted Mind is now streaming on RoyalArts TV’s YouTube Channel.

Q&A: The Mind Behind Twisted Mind
By Juri Love | For The Foxboro Reporter

With her debut film Twisted Mind now streaming to audiences around the world, we sat down with local filmmaker Adeola Olafikun to discuss her inspiration, challenges, and hopes for the future.

What inspired you to create Twisted Mind?

Adeola Olafikun:
I’ve always been passionate about storytelling. Growing up in Ekiti State, I saw so many family dynamics that weren’t always talked about openly secrets, betrayals, unspoken pain. I wanted to create something raw that would resonate across cultures, but especially within the African community.

You took on several major roles in the production. Why wear so many hats?

Olafikun:
Honestly, out of necessity and passion. As an independent filmmaker, you do what you must to bring your vision to life. I was the executive producer, screenwriter, casting director, and production coordinator not because I had to prove anything, but because I knew what I wanted this story to be.

What challenges did you face during the production process?

Olafikun:
Funding is always a challenge, especially for new filmmakers. And as a woman, especially one creating from outside of Nigeria, it was tough to get the right attention. But I believed in my story. I also had to coordinate with a team spread across continents, which added layers of complexity.

How has the response been so far?

Olafikun: It’s been overwhelming in a good way. People are reaching out to say how much they connected with the characters. That’s the best feedback any storyteller can ask for.

What’s next for LydiaBecca Production?

Olafikun:
More films, definitely. I’m working on a second project that focuses on women’s empowerment and resilience. My long-term goal is to bridge African cinema with global audiences in a powerful way.

Any advice for aspiring filmmakers?

Olafikun: Don’t wait for the perfect moment or all the funding. Start where you are, use what you have, and tell the story that only you can tell.
