Popular skit maker and content creator, Sirbalo, whose real name is Obotuke Timothy Ochuko, has become one of Nigeria’s top skit makers and is perhaps one of the richest. In a recent interview with Potpourri, the Delta State native from Ughelli North local government area shared some insights on how skit makers earn their money while downplaying rumors of being a billionaire.

According to Sirbalo, there is a lot of money to be made on online platforms, and skit makers can monetize their content on Facebook and YouTube. However, he noted that the majority of comedy skit makers in Nigeria do not make the bulk of their money from these platforms. Instead, they rely heavily on revenues generated through personal promotions, endorsements, and advertisements.

Sirbalo emphasized that to be a successful skit maker, consistency and experience are key. He advised aspiring and upcoming skit makers to follow the trend, be open to corrections, and learn from other top skit makers. He also urged them to be patient, as maintaining fame requires a lot of work. Above all, he stressed the importance of focusing on both fame and finances, as success is achieved when both are present.

Sirbalo, who attended Federal Government College, Idoani, Ondo State, and Lagos State University, worked as an editor in Nollywood and as a permanent editor to Mr. Ibu before becoming a content creator.

In conclusion, while Facebook and YouTube remain strong sources of income for skit makers, personal promotions, endorsements, and advertisements are the primary means by which they earn their money. To be successful in the industry, skit makers must be consistent, open to learning, and willing to improve their craft continually.
