Chief Oliver Okpala, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Enlightenment to the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for allegedly forsaking his primary responsibilities to focus on pursuing personal vendettas under the guise of anti-corruption efforts.
Governor Yusuf recently initiated two judicial commissions of inquiry to investigate allegations of misappropriation of public property, political violence, and missing persons during the tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. However, Okpala, in a statement released in Abuja, questioned the governor’s motives, particularly targeting one individual while neglecting pressing issues facing the state.
Okpala argued that the governor’s actions over the past eight months appeared biased and driven by vendetta, suggesting a lack of focus on providing essential infrastructure and addressing the needs of the people, such as the ongoing water scarcity issue in Kano State.
Furthermore, he criticized the narrow scope of the investigation, urging Governor Yusuf to extend the probe to previous administrations, including that of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to ensure fairness and thoroughness. Okpala emphasized the importance of prioritizing governance over personal vendettas, highlighting the imperative for the governor to focus on delivering tangible benefits to the people.
He warned against the dangers of dwelling on past conflicts, urging Governor Yusuf to concentrate on fulfilling his electoral mandate and addressing the socioeconomic challenges facing Kano State.
In conclusion, Okpala underscored the necessity for Governor Yusuf to be accountable to the people and demonstrate tangible achievements rather than pursuing vendettas against political opponents. He emphasized that history would judge the governor based on his governance record and urged him to prioritize the welfare of the people above all else.
