Tekifest’23 was more than just another event in the tech calendar-it was a powerful convergence of ideas, people, and purpose. Held just over a week ago, the gathering drew together leading voices in the Nigerian tech ecosystem, from seasoned professionals to ambitious newcomers, all united by a shared focus: the future of work and the importance of building strong talent pipelines.
The day was packed with engaging keynotes and thoughtful panel discussions. Figures like Scott Eneje, founder of Digital Evolution and product leader at Hark, called on attendees to move beyond conversation and become creators of the future. His message was clear: innovation begins at home, and those who succeed locally can make waves globally.
Another consistent theme throughout the day was the need to embed technology deeper into Nigeria’s educational system. Speakers stressed the urgency of preparing students for roles that don’t even exist yet. This future-focused mindset was reinforced by Olaniran Afolabi Monsur of Menaget SPC, who shared a compelling statistic—that 85% of jobs in 2030 are yet to be created—underscoring the need for consistent upskilling and foresight in career planning.
Among the panelists was Habeeb Azeez, a Product Designer at Brass, who shared practical insights on how designers and technologists can remain relevant in an ever-evolving industry. He emphasized the importance of adaptability—not just in tools and workflows, but in mindset. Habeeb encouraged young professionals to blend their current skills with emerging ones, highlighting that staying static in tech is a risk. He also spoke about the need for designers to grow beyond pixels, to think strategically, and contribute to product direction and team collaboration. “If you’re scared your current skill will become obsolete in the future, look for a way to upgrade, blend your skill, and still be relevant,” he advised.
From emphasizing practical experience over certificates, to spotlighting attributes like curiosity, confidence, and communication, the event echoed what many already know: the tech industry values doers, learners, and thinkers who can evolve with it.
Recognition was also a big part of the day. Tekisite honored outstanding contributors through the Top100Tekies award, celebrating those who had made significant impacts through its bootcamps. The event also offered health services like medical check-ups, reflecting its holistic approach to supporting the tech community.
In many ways, Tekifest’23 served as both a mirror and a map—showing us where the tech ecosystem stands, and where it needs to go. And at the center of it all was Tekisite’s mission: to empower talent, shift narratives, and pave the way for a more inclusive and prepared digital future in Nigeria.
