Ramsey Nouah, a renowned Nollywood actor, achieved a remarkable milestone by receiving the coveted ‘Best Director’ award for his film “Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story” at the esteemed 8th Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) ceremony.

Nouah’s transition into directing has been nothing short of extraordinary. His directorial debut, “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free,” a remake of a 90s movie, garnered 11 award nominations and an impressive seven wins, including the prestigious ‘Best Director’ accolade at the 2020 AMVCA. This remarkable achievement is a testament to his talent and skill as a first-time movie director.

Co-produced by Charles Okpaleke, “Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story” is a remake of the Nigerian action thriller classic “Rattlesnake,” originally directed by Amaka Igwe and released in 1995.

The film received a mixed response from critics and achieved a box office gross of N70.8 million, securing the 24th spot on the list of highest-grossing Nigerian films of all time.

Early in his life, Ramsey Tokunbo Nouah was born on December 19, 1970, in Edo State. He hails from a multicultural background, with an Israeli father and a Yoruba mother from Owo, Ondo State. Growing up in Surulere, a suburb of Lagos, he attended Atora Primary School and Community Grammar School. Nouah earned a diploma in mass communications from the University of Lagos before embarking on his acting career.

Nouah’s decision to pursue acting stemmed from his financial struggles. Despite his best efforts, he found it challenging to gather funds for his GCE examinations. Following the recommendation of close friends, he decided to attend an audition, which served as the launching pad for his successful career in the Nollywood industry. He made his acting debut in 1990 and gained recognition through his role in the Nigerian television serial opera, “Fortunes.”

Known for his roles as the lead character in numerous films, Nouah has been labeled as the “Lover-Boy” due to his appearances in romantic comedies. His portrayal in the 2010 film “The Figurine” earned him the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. With over 50 films and series to his credit, including notable works such as “30 Days in Atlanta,” “76,” “Merry Men” franchise, “Nneka the Pretty Serpent,” and the recent “Blood Sisters,” Nouah is undeniably one of the most sought-after actors in Nigeria.

In addition to his acting career, Nouah has also ventured behind the camera, producing films like “Elephant in the Room” and contributing short stories to “African Magic.” He directed his first film, “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free,” which was released in November 2019.

Throughout his illustrious career, Nouah has been honored with various awards and accolades, including the Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 2007 Nigerian Entertainment Awards for “Dangerous Twins,” the Nollywood Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for “The Figurine” at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2010, and the Best Actor in a Film/Short Story at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards in 2011, among others.

On a personal note, Nouah tied the knot with Emelia Philips in 2002. He lovingly describes her as the powerhouse of their family, and together, they have been blessed with three beautiful children.
