Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir, on Monday, played host to protesting youths, under the aegis of Kano State Civil Society Forum, at the Government House, Kano, who are demanding justice at the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.
The youths defied the police order, banning protests in the state, as they move in large groups, displaying placards, to the Government House. The youths protested that a female judge at the Kano State Election Petition Tribunal had raised alarm that some lawyers are trying to bribe her to pervert judgment.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Husaini Gumel, earlier on Monday, at the State Police Headquarters “announced a ban on all street protests”, citing tension over the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which would be sitting for the
adoption of written addresses. The CP had declared that “intelligence reports revealed that both the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are mobilizingfor street protests against the tribunal sitting.”
