Various influential voices from diverse sectors have called for a profound introspection into Nigeria’s past, present, and future, aiming to rectify past mistakes and foster economic diversification for improved outcomes.
This call was made during a public lecture and founder’s forum themed “In the National Interest: Reflecting on the Past, Reimagining the Future,” jointly organized by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and the Lagos Business School. The event marked the commencement of activities for the 30th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES#30) scheduled for later this year.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, underscored the theme’s significance, urging every Nigerian to retrospectively examine the past while projecting into the future, bridging the gap between historical legacies and forthcoming aspirations.
Dr. Pascal Dozie, Chairman of the NESG Advisory Board, emphasized the imperative of reimagining Nigeria with wisdom and fortitude across political, economic, educational, and environmental domains. He commended the relentless efforts of NESG in driving reform and improvement, facilitating the implementation of policy decisions nationwide.
Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru, Managing Partner of Compliance Professionals Plc, reflected on three decades of transformative dialogue and economic reform catalyzed by NESG, stressing Nigeria’s commitment to accelerated economic development despite prevailing challenges. She lauded NESG’s continuous efforts in shaping the nation’s socio-economic landscape through research and impactful programs.
Mr. Niyi Yusuf, Chairman of the NESG Board of Directors, highlighted the pivotal role of the annual Nigerian Economic Summit in advocacy endeavors, emphasizing the upcoming summit’s significance in addressing economic diversification, fostering a conducive business environment, and enhancing infrastructure development.
Dr. Imo Itsueli, pioneer board member of NESG, recounted Nigeria’s journey through adversity, culminating in the formation of NESG as a leading platform for dialogue and transformative economic change.
The Lagos event also marked the unveiling of the NES#30 logo, symbolizing three decades of impactful dialogue driving economic reforms and transformation in Nigeria. The logo signifies NESG’s commitment to domestic progress and global collaboration, with the peach-colored ribbon representing the celebratory spirit surrounding the 30th Nigerian Economic Summit anniversary.
