The President directed the newly appointed officials to assume their duties without delay. Additionally, President Tinubu ordered the immediate retirement of the service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs, and others.

The announcement came through a statement released by the Director of Information, Willie Bassey, on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume. The statement declared, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate retirement of all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, Comptroller-General of Customs from Service as well as their replacements with immediate effect.”

Consequently, General Lucky Irabor was compelled to retire from service as the Chief of Defence Staff, along with Faruk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff, Awwal Gambo as the Chief of Naval Staff, Isiaka Amao as the Chief of Air Staff, and Alkali Usman as the Inspector General of Police.
