Dr. Tom FredFish, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and youth activist, has strongly criticized the resolutions reached in the ongoing feud between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and his estranged godfather, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, characterizing the truce as a “desecration of the Nigerian constitution.”

In an interview with LEADERSHIP Friday in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, FredFish condemned the entire process leading to the resolution, deeming it a constitutional coup. He expressed concern over the unconstitutional replacement of a new speaker, especially with a pending court case on the matter.

FredFish pointed out that one of the resolutions suggesting the recognition and return of the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by former Speaker Hon. Martins Amaewhule, raised particular alarm. This proposal included the return of his 26 APC defectors and co-travelers.

The youth activist, known for previously suing TELL magazine and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), described the proposed return of the former Speaker as an “intimidating slap to the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.” He referred to a court order in suit marked PHC/3030/CS/2023 that restrained Amaewhule and Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol from parading themselves as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the RSHA.

FredFish emphasized the importance of adhering to the rule of law and the constitution, asserting that no individual or group should act outside these confines or disobey court orders based on political arrangements.

He stated, “If they want to be returned as speaker and deputy speaker of the House, they ought to return to the Court and give reasons why the court should return them to the House and not attempt to go back to the office through a back door.”
