Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has refuted allegations suggesting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary did not take place in the state, labeling such claims as unfounded “hearsay.”

Speaking to State House correspondents in Abuja yesterday, Aiyedatiwa, who emerged victorious in the primary for the upcoming November governorship election, affirmed that the election indeed occurred across the state, despite complaints from certain quarters.

Addressing the allegations, the governor emphasized, “Those who are complaining, it’s just hearsay. Election actually took place.” He clarified that he could only verify the occurrence of the election in his own ward, where he participated.

Aiyedatiwa challenged those alleging irregularities to provide evidence, asserting the principle that “Who alleges must prove.” He dismissed speculations of unfairness or voting irregularities, stating that the process was transparent.

Regarding efforts to foster unity among aspirants, Aiyedatiwa revealed ongoing discussions, underscoring the familial ties shared among them as members of the same political party. He expressed confidence in his relationships with the aspirants, emphasizing mutual respect and collaboration.

“We’re already talking. The good thing is that I have a relationship with everyone of them…So there’s no form of grandstanding, it’s not a politics of calumny. So we relate very well,” Aiyedatiwa remarked.

Despite isolated grievances, the governor stressed the importance of APC’s unity to secure victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial polls slated for November.
