The Northern Awareness Network (NAN) has thrown its weight behind the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for alleged anti-party conduct and the purported misappropriation of party campaign funds.

Salihu Suleiman, the Chairman of NAN, characterized the accusations against Kwankwaso as grave, emphasizing that they not only bring to light concerning revelations but also cast a shadow on the integrity of political leaders in northern Nigeria.

It’s worth recalling that a faction within the NNPP petitioned the EFCC, alleging misappropriation of over N2 billion against the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and 13 others. The faction, represented by its national secretary, Oginni Olaposi, asserted mismanagement of party funds, alleging that proceeds from nomination forms, membership fees, and donations were unaccounted for by the ousted party leadership.

Suleiman stressed the necessity for a thorough investigation into the matter to uphold principles of good governance and accountability within the political sphere.

He emphasized that if the allegations in the NNPP secretary’s petition to the EFCC are substantiated, it could not only damage Kwankwaso’s reputation but also tarnish the broader tradition of northern leadership.

NAN advocated for transparency and accountability in political leadership, asserting that no individual, regardless of their status, should be immune to the law.

The group urged the EFCC to conduct a meticulous inquiry into the allegations and ensure due process according to the law. It called on all political leaders to exhibit integrity and transparency to restore public trust and confidence in the political process.

NAN also urged all stakeholders within the political arena to support NNPP and EFCC efforts in conducting a comprehensive investigation into these allegations.

“Suleiman reiterated NAN’s unwavering commitment to promoting transparency, integrity, and ethical conduct in our political landscape. He asserted that only by upholding these principles can a fair and just society be constructed for all Nigerians.”
