Lagos, Nigeria – Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin has revisited the contentious theft allegation that made rounds on social media months ago. The actress, known for her multidimensional roles in the Nigerian film industry, addressed the accusations during a recent podcast appearance, vehemently denying any involvement in the alleged crime.
The controversy stems from accusations that Anjorin stole a gram of gold valued at N91,000 from the bustling Idumota market in Lagos. However, the actress dismissed the claims, comparing the value of the gold in question to a grain of rice, and emphasized that it was implausible for someone of her stature and business acumen to commit such an act.
“Let’s establish the fact that we are talking about N91,000 gold when a gram of gold was around N150,000,” Anjorin stated. “A gram of gold is less than a grain of rice, so how can I go into the market to steal something less than a grain of rice?”
Anjorin, who is also a certified jewellery seller and fabric merchant, asserted that her dealings in high-value gold and diamonds make the accusation even more absurd. “What I am wearing right now is like 350 to 400 grams, and everybody knows I don’t sell small gold jewellery, I sell 19 to 22 carats. I sell the best jewelry. So how can I stoop so low as to steal a gram of gold at Eko Idumota? That is ridiculous.”
She further declared, “I am not a thief; I will never be a thief. I am just too disciplined and too straightforward to become a thief.”
The case had initially sparked widespread debate on social media, but Anjorin’s recent comments aim to put an end to the speculation. By addressing the allegations directly, she hopes to clear her name and maintain her reputation in both the entertainment and business sectors.
