Renowned media personality VJ Adams has shared valuable advice for teenagers, urging them not to rush into leaving their parents’ homes.

VJ Adams highlighted the current trend of teenagers opting to rent their own apartments and cautioned that it may not be economically beneficial.

The popular on-air personality emphasized that those fortunate enough to have parents residing in desirable locations, such as Ikeja, Gbagada, Ogbudu, Yaba, or Surulere, should seriously consider staying with their parents until their mid to late twenties. By doing so, they can save the money they would have spent on rent.

“Why are you trying to leave your parents’ house?” VJ Adams questioned. “At the age of 17 or 18, think about it—by the time you’re 27, if you save N3 million every year, treating it like rent payments, you would have accumulated N30 million in ten years. At 27, you can move out and either buy a house or rent one of your choosing, with the ability to furnish it to your liking.”

VJ Adams acknowledged that his own early departure from his parents’ house was due to his job requirements, but he advised young individuals to carefully consider the financial advantages of staying with their parents for an extended period.

The media personality stressed that the pursuit of immediate freedom may not be worth the financial burden. By remaining with their parents and diligently saving money, teenagers can establish a solid financial foundation for their future.

VJ Adams’ insightful advice serves as a reminder for teenagers to weigh their options carefully and consider the long-term financial benefits of staying with their parents until they are better equipped to face the responsibilities that come with independent living.
