An Appeal Court session in Lagos State has solidified Siminalayi Fubara’s position as the governor of Rivers State, affirming his election victory. The court rejected the petition brought forth by Patrick Tonye-Cole, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, against Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
During the court proceedings on Tuesday, Cole, the APC candidate, sought a court order directing INEC to declare him the winner of the March governorship election in Rivers. However, the court upheld Fubara’s victory, dismissing Cole’s case, which had initially been rejected by the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in October.
Having expressed dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s ruling, the APC candidate took the matter to the appellate court, which, as of Tuesday, has upheld the tribunal’s decision, solidifying Fubara’s win in October.
Further details will be provided as they emerge.
