The Kano Concerned Forum has strongly condemned the decision by the Kano State government to initiate an investigation into the tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Speaking to reporters in Kano, the forum’s secretary, Comrade Auwal Shu‘aib, expressed dismay over the government’s focus on investigating past administrations rather than prioritizing governance and delivering tangible benefits to the people of Kano.
Shu‘aib asserted, “With elections concluded, it is imperative for the current administration to focus on governance and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. Revisiting investigations into the Ganduje administration is counterproductive and signals a failure to address present challenges.”
He highlighted pressing issues such as the high cost of living and hyperinflation affecting Kano residents, emphasizing the need for the government to address these urgent concerns.
The forum criticized the government for its perceived lack of progress since assuming office nearly a year ago, questioning the rationale behind allocating resources to what they deemed as a futile investigation.
Furthermore, Ambassador Abdullahi Mohammed, co-convener of the forum, criticized the perceived bias and unfairness in the composition and mandate of the investigative committee. He argued against singling out Ganduje’s administration for scrutiny, advocating for a broader investigation spanning multiple administrations.
Mohammed also defended Ganduje’s actions regarding government properties, asserting that the leasing of such properties followed legal procedures and was consistent with practices observed by other governors across the country.
He concluded by lauding Ganduje’s achievements in infrastructural development and economic growth during his tenure as governor.
The Kano State government’s decision to establish two committees to probe Ganduje’s administration has sparked controversy and drawn criticism from various quarters.
