The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted claims made by members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) regarding a purported deal to compromise the upcoming Supreme Court judgment on the contested governorship in the state.

Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the Chairman of Kano State APC, dismissed the alleged agreement and reconciliation as baseless rumors. He asserted that the NNPP’s circulation of these rumors aims to mislead its members, generating excitement and fostering false hopes amid the ongoing disfranchisement.

Following the recent Appeal Court verdict upholding the State Election Petitions Tribunal’s decision on the March 18 governorship election, which ordered the removal of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, he approached the Supreme Court. In a statement in Abuja, APC Chairman Abbas refuted claims that NNPP sought President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention in favor of their candidate, who would allegedly remain as governor and subsequently defect to the APC.

Chairman Abbas clarified, “There is no record of any such meeting with Mr. President or any party leader. President Bola Tinubu upholds democratic principles, believes in the rule of law, and will not participate in any arrangement to undermine justice or support individuals who have obtained votes through illegitimate means.”

He emphasized that the APC was unaware of such an arrangement and reiterated its commitment to pursuing the case at the Supreme Court vigorously. Abbas expressed confidence in the party’s victory at the apex court, citing compelling evidence presented at both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court.

Chairman Abbas assured that there is no tension in Kano, emphasizing that the people are content with the recent developments stemming from the judgments of both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court.
