Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has taken decisive action to address the deteriorating state of the Ekpoma-Abuja federal highway by mobilizing workers and equipment for its reconstruction.
This move comes as BUA Group, a leading cement producer with a plant in Okpella, Etsako East local government area of Edo State, capitalizes on the favorable business environment fostered by the Obaseki administration.
Governor Obaseki recently raised concerns about the road’s condition during a meeting with the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, prompting a commitment from the Minister to take immediate action. The Minister, after inspecting ongoing federal road projects in the state, commended Governor Obaseki for prioritizing quality infrastructure for the state’s residents.
Accompanied by the Minister, Edo State’s Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Ethan Uzamere, outlined plans for both short-term remedial measures and long-term infrastructure development. Immediate actions will involve using materials such as Dangote and BUA cements for repairs on the Benin-Auchi Road. Long-term strategies include road concessioning for sustainable infrastructure beyond the current administration.
Uzamere emphasized a phased approach, with a focus on essential palliative measures and the application of durable materials like concrete. He pledged to provide land for development projects and assured engagement with relevant authorities and community stakeholders for smooth execution.
This collaborative effort has been welcomed by stakeholders as a timely intervention to address longstanding challenges on the Ekpoma Road and improve overall infrastructure for the community’s benefit.
