Udom Emmanuel, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has vowed to support his successor, Governor Umo Eno, in surpassing the accomplishments of his own tenure in office. In a statement from his media office, Emmanuel disclosed that one of the keys to his success as governor was the support he received from Christian fathers in the state. He expressed joy that they are extending the same support to his successor.
During a New Year State service in Akwa Ibom State to usher in 2024, Emmanuel confidently stated, “I still stand on what I said from Day One that you’ll do 200 times better than me in all ramifications, and God will give you the enablement and capacity to make that happen.” Dismissing concerns about his successor’s capabilities, Emmanuel emphasized that when God sends someone, He provides the necessary resources, capacity, and everything needed to fulfill the task.
He thanked the people of the state for supporting Governor Umo Eno and stressed the importance of unity in the state. Emmanuel expressed his gratitude for being invited to join in the celebration, highlighting the significance of the worship center named after God, which now provides a fitting place for the people to gather and worship.
“I want to use this opportunity to sincerely thank the Fathers of Faith. Once there is a king succeeding, watch the back, and you’ll see a priest. I really want to thank them. These are the priests that really backed me and are backing you up also. I can guarantee you that all of us will give you the support you need,” added Emmanuel.
Governor Umo Eno, in his remarks at the event, expressed delight over the attendance and the venue, describing the worship center not just as a place of worship but also as a tourist attraction. He announced the appointment of a coordinator and secretary for the prayer roster and a technical crew to maintain the facility, emphasizing the importance of daily prayers at the Worship Centre throughout the year.
The event drew clergymen, government officials from the state and federal levels, including the Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Obong Emem Ekperikpe Ekpo, Senator Ita Enang, and the Commissioner of the NDDC from Akwa Ibom State, among others, as well as sociocultural groups and individuals from various walks of life who collectively offered praises, worship, and prayers for the state, country, and leaders at different levels of governance.
