Nigerian Afrobeat singer and songwriter, Erigga, has once again stirred reactions online after taking a swipe at women who, according to him, look down on men despite being financially dependent themselves.

In a recent post on his Facebook handle, the “Motivation” crooner expressed his frustration over what he described as a rising culture of “broke girls with luxury expectations.”

“You met him on a public bus, but he’s the poor one,” Erigga wrote, accompanied by a sarcastic emoji that quickly sent social media buzzing.

The post, though short, ignited heated debates among fans and followers. Many users agreed with the artist, applauding him for “speaking the truth,” while others accused him of generalizing and taking a jab at women struggling financially.

Erigga, known for his streetwise lyrics and raw commentary on social issues, has built a reputation for voicing uncomfortable truths about relationships, money, and societal double standards. His statement is the latest in a series of social media posts where he addresses what he sees as misplaced priorities among young Nigerians.

One commenter wrote, “He’s right. Some ladies want men with cars and cash when they can’t even afford transport fare.”
Another user countered, “It’s not about being broke; it’s about standards. Everyone has a right to desire better.”

As of this morning, the post had garnered thousands of reactions and comments, further proving Erigga’s knack for sparking national conversations with just a few words.

Love him or hate him, one thing remains clear Erigga never shies away from calling things as he sees them.
