Don Jazzy, CEO of Mavin Records, has disclosed his strategy to avoid releasing new music on the same day as top artists Wizkid and Asake. In a recent podcast interview with Fisayo Fosudo, Don Jazzy described it as “suicidal” to compete directly with these dominant figures in Nigeria’s streaming scene.

To sidestep potential clashes, Don Jazzy has adjusted Mavin Records’ traditional Friday release schedule to Wednesdays and Thursdays. This shift aims to ensure that his artists, including Rema, Ayra Starr, and Crayon, receive optimal attention and visibility.

“We [Mavin] are moving from the traditional Friday release date to Wednesdays and Thursdays because there are no more Fridays [without another artist dropping a song],” Don Jazzy explained. “If my artist is to drop a song or project on a Friday and Wizkid or Asake is also releasing that day, I will move our release date because you don’t want to just die a natural death.”

This strategic move reflects Don Jazzy’s effort to maximize exposure for his artists amid a highly competitive music landscape.
