Nollywood actress and filmmaker Destiny Etiko has raised concerns about the escalating fuel prices in Nigeria, joining the chorus of public figures expressing frustration over the issue. Her remarks come in the wake of actress Kate Henshaw’s critical tweet about the recent surge in fuel prices announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

In a statement, Etiko highlighted the severe impact of the price hike on ordinary Nigerians, revealing that fuel prices in her locality have soared to N1200. She expressed dismay at the worsening economic conditions, noting that many people are struggling to afford basic necessities like food.

Etiko took to social media to voice her frustration, stating, “Fuel is now N1200, what is going on bikonu? I honestly thought the protest was going to help salvage this economic hardship in this country. It’s becoming too hard for a normal layman to eat three square meals. Niger, which way?”

The actress’s post has sparked a range of reactions from netizens:

  • @emekah_2 questioned, “U come out protest?”
  • @josephnnennad responded, “@emekah_2 As in ehnn some of them dey inside their mansion dey wait for who go take bullet for them.”

  • @everything_beauty_hairstudio added, “@emekah_2 I tire oo, people wey get platform hide yeye country.”

Etiko’s concerns reflect broader public anxiety about the rising cost of living and the effectiveness of recent protests aimed at addressing economic challenges in Nigeria.
