Popular social media commentator, Daniel Regha, has responded to May D’s recent claim that he was once bigger than Nigerian music icons Davido and Wizkid in terms of popularity.

The singer, who rose to fame with hits like “Soundtrack” and “Chop My Money,” recently made waves on social media by asserting that, at the peak of his career, he was more influential than the Afrobeats megastars. His bold statement has sparked debate across platforms, with many fans questioning the validity of his assertion.

Daniel Regha, known for his outspoken views on social media, quickly chimed in with a counterclaim that the reality of May D’s success does not match his narrative. In a series of tweets, Regha said, “May D’s career was never at the same level as Davido or Wizkid’s in terms of impact or global recognition. While his contributions to Afrobeat are acknowledged, comparing himself to those two is just delusional.”

Regha further pointed out that Davido and Wizkid’s international collaborations, chart success, and sustained relevance over the years have set them apart as global icons. “May D was a popular artist in his own right, but Davido and Wizkid have remained consistent players in the global music scene, while May D’s career has largely faded from the mainstream,” he wrote.

The back-and-forth has generated mixed reactions on social media, with some supporting May D’s nostalgia for his heyday, while others agree with Regha’s assessment of the current state of the artists’ careers.

May D, who has recently been pushing for a comeback, has yet to respond to Regha’s remarks, but his fans have rallied behind him, continuing to defend his statement and remind people of his early successes.

As the debate continues, the question remains whether May D’s claim is an attempt to reignite interest in his career or a genuine reflection of his past standing in the Nigerian music industry.
