In a significant move to bolster the nation’s judiciary, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, administered the oath of office to six newly appointed judges of the National Industrial Court. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Supreme Court in Abuja.

During the ceremony on Monday, Justice Ariwoola emphasized the importance of upholding honor and integrity while discharging their judicial duties. He urged the judges to reject all forms of corruption and maintain unquestionable character in the pursuit of justice. Justice Ariwoola highlighted the need for judges who can dispense justice without fear of external pressures or manipulation.

Addressing the newly appointed judges, he alerted them to expect numerous high-profile cases, some of which may involve lucrative financial and business transactions. He cautioned them against succumbing to temptations and called on them to rise above corruption and favoritism. Justice Ariwoola reminded them of their divine mandate to justify their appointments and uphold the judiciary’s reputation.

“I am making it clear to you to keep your heads high above the murky waters of corruption and favouritism. You must also redouble your efforts and dialogue with your conscience because you have a divine mandate to justify your appointments,” he said.

The CJN further stressed the importance of the judges providing a commendable representation of the judiciary, ensuring that the institution’s name remains untarnished. He emphasized that industrial disputes and litigations are on the rise, underscoring Nigeria’s position as one of the most litigious countries.

“Industrial disputes and litigations are in steady rise, you should be consciously on your toes knowing that Nigeria ranks among the most litigious country,’’ he reminded them.

The six judges who were sworn in are Justice Subilim Emmanuel Danjuma, Justice Muhammad Adamu Hamza, Justice Damachi-Onugba Joyce Agede, Justice Hassan Muhammed Yakubu, Justice Buhari Sanni, and Justice Sanda Audu Yelwa. As they begin their judicial responsibilities, they are expected to fulfill their roles diligently and contribute to the nation’s pursuit of justice and fairness.
