Chidi Mokeme, a Nigerian actor, shared his method for immersing himself in his role in the six-part television series “Shanty Town.” The show depicts the struggles of a group of sex workers as they attempt to break free from the control of a powerful criminal mastermind, only to face obstacles in the form of political corruption and familial ties.

Actor Mokeme has won the admiration of many fans and received numerous awards for his portrayal of the kingpin Scar. In a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, he revealed that he had to make significant physical changes in order to play the role.

He said, “To fully embody the character of Scar, I shaved my head and went bald, refrained from bathing for a few days, and even smoked 3 packs of cigarettes per day to alter my voice. It’s been challenging to separate myself from the character, as we’ve become so intertwined.”

“I am having difficulty separating myself from the character of Scar. I’ve told Scar that I am done with him, but I find myself wanting to hold on to him. Shanty Town is my return to acting after a long break due to my battle with Bell’s Palsy.”
