In a recent appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Nigerian artist Candy Bleakz addressed the challenges facing female artists in the Nigerian music industry, particularly the lack of collaboration and support among them.

Candy Bleakz acknowledged the historical lack of support, noting, “I agree that we don’t support each other. It’s obvious.” She mentioned recent collaborations like her songs with Simi and Bloody, and noted Ayra Starr’s and Tiwa Savage’s joint efforts as examples of a positive shift. “It’s just happening now, but before now, there’s no female artist you can say helped bring up another female artist,” she added.

Discussing the evolving dynamics, Candy Bleakz emphasized, “I feel like the Gen Z, the new female artists are trying to make things work,” highlighting the growing trend of collaboration among emerging female stars in the industry.

Signed to Chocolate City, the Street pop star also spoke about the high expectations placed on female artists, from their looks to their personalities. She pointed out that some labels hesitate to sign female artists due to prejudices that they might get married, have children, date their managers, or make personal life decisions seen as unprofitable for their careers.

During the interview, Candy Bleakz, who recently released her new EP ‘Better Days,’ shared her inspiring journey and the challenges she faced on her path to success.
