Lagos — Afrobeat superstar Burna Boy has cautioned his followers to refrain from involving him in the ongoing nationwide hunger protest. The protests, which began on August 1, are driven by widespread economic hardship across Nigeria.

Burna Boy addressed the issue on his X handle, emphasizing his reluctance to participate in the current demonstrations. He referenced his experience during the EndSARS protests on October 20, 2020, when he felt disillusioned after his music was rejected by demonstrators.

In a tweet from October 2020, Burna Boy stated, “The fight in me died on this day. Ogun go doggy anybody wey call my name this time around. Even Jesus was crucified.” His comment reflected his frustration with the situation and his decision to remain uninvolved in subsequent protests.

In a surprising twist, Burna Boy has announced he is relinquishing his “African Giant” title to fellow singer Falz. The move follows criticism from a social media user who accused Burna Boy of not living up to his title through active advocacy.

Responding to the criticism, Burna Boy tweeted, “I don hand am over to Falz bros,” indicating his decision to pass on the title to Falz in recognition of his contributions.

This gesture comes amid Burna Boy’s decision to distance himself from the national protests, further fueling discussion among fans and the public about the role of celebrities in social and political activism.
