The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has emerged victorious in the 2023 Presidential Election, and President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his congratulations. In a statement, Buhari said Tinubu was the best person for the job, and he looks forward to working with him and his team for a smooth transition of power.

The President also noted that the election was the largest democratic exercise in Africa, demonstrating democracy’s relevance and capability to deliver for the people it serves. He added that the results indicate the growth of democracy in Nigeria, as states in all regions across the country changed political affiliations.

However, Buhari also commented on the reactions of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of compromise and called for the cancellation of the election.

The President acknowledged that while the election was not flawless, with technical issues experienced during the electronic transmission of results, these challenges did not affect the fairness and freeness of the election. He noted that some candidates may not agree with this viewpoint, and if they have evidence of fraud, they should present it in court instead of inciting violence on the streets.

The President urged all candidates to act responsibly and uphold the peace pledge they made before the election. He emphasized the need to come together as one and move forward in the interest of the people, now that the election is over. The people have spoken, and it is time to focus on the future.
