The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) and the Northern Emancipation Network (NEN) have issued a joint call urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to uphold the rule of law and cease the persecution, harassment, and public embarrassment of former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello.
Responding to the recent declaration of Bello as wanted by the EFCC, AYCF President General Yerima Shettima and NEN Chairman Suleiman Abba, in separate statements, emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold without undue interference.
Shettima stated that, given the unfolding developments, Bello’s involvement with the EFCC has concluded, and he simply needs to appear in court on the next adjourned date or upon receiving the court processes. He criticized the EFCC’s handling of the matter, pointing out discrepancies in the charge sheet and questioning the timing of the allegations.
The AYCF expressed concern over the portrayal of Bello as evading investigation and prosecution, highlighting the lack of concrete evidence to support such claims.
Similarly, Suleiman stressed the importance of allowing the judiciary to determine Bello’s fate based on evidence presented in court. He urged the EFCC to respect the rule of law and await the judgment from the Court of Appeal before taking any further action against Bello.
Both organizations emphasized the fundamental principles of justice and fairness in upholding the credibility of the legal system and ensuring the dignity of all individuals.
In conclusion, they urged the EFCC to exercise restraint and adhere to the legal process in dealing with Bello’s case, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all individuals.
Recalling the invasion of Bello’s residence and his subsequent declaration as wanted, they underscored the need for a fair and transparent legal process to ensure justice is served and democracy remains strong.
