Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, extended his congratulations to the PDP on its 25th anniversary. He commended the party for its positive impact on Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development and expressed confidence in the party’s resurgence.
In a statement released on Friday, Atiku Abubakar emphasized the significant role played by the PDP in shaping contemporary democracy in Nigeria. He affirmed the party’s commitment to ensuring not only the survival of democracy in Nigeria but also the nation’s prosperity through democratic governance.
Atiku stated, “The PDP is the progenitor of our contemporary democracy, and therefore, the party shall ensure that democracy does not only survive in Nigeria, but that the country thrives through it.”
As one of the founding fathers of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar took pride in his involvement in nurturing the party from its infancy to becoming a vital force for socio-political and economic development in Nigeria. He lauded the PDP’s 16-year tenure at the helm of national affairs, highlighting the party’s achievements as benchmarks for positive growth in the country’s economy and other critical aspects of national life.
He also underscored the PDP’s pivotal role in dismantling military rule in Nigeria, emphasizing that current challenges both within Nigeria and in other African countries necessitate the PDP’s resurgence in addressing economic hardships and structural deficiencies that have adversely affected the people over the past nearly eight and a half years.
Atiku Abubakar concluded by expressing his unwavering confidence that the PDP would make a triumphant return to provide Nigerians with responsive governance. He acknowledged the PDP’s history as a ruling party in Nigeria and its potential to continue contributing positively to the nation’s development.
