Adeniji Kazeem SAN to Lead Efforts in Protecting Cultural Heritage and Advancing Community Rights
Mr. Adeniji Kazeem SAN, a former Lagos State Attorney General, Commissioner for Justice, and grandson of the late Oba Musendiku Adeniji-Adele II, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Isale Eko Descendants’ Union (IDU). The election took place during the Annual General Meeting of the 23rd Union, held on June 23, 2023, at the IDU secretariat in Isale-Eko, Lagos Island, Lagos.
Mr. Adeniji Kazeem was unanimously chosen to serve a three-year term, succeeding Mr. Yomi Tokosi, a distinguished economist and banker who held the position for the past three years.
Joining Mr. Adeniji Kazeem in leading the affairs of the IDU are other elected officials for the new term, including Mr. Aderemi Bashua SAN as Vice Chairman, Prince Adewale Ojora as General Secretary, Omolola Adele-Oso as Financial Secretary, Lanre Shasore as Culture Secretary, Dale Ajayi-Bembe as Deputy General Secretary, and Yomi Suenu as Welfare Secretary.
The Isale Eko Descendants’ Union has long been a staunch advocate for community-based rights, with a focus on protecting its cultural heritage, promoting healthcare initiatives, and advancing educational rights for its members.
Recently, the IDU raised strong objections to the defamation of Isale Eko and the desecration of the iconic Eyo masquerade in a movie titled “Gangs of Lagos.” In response, the union has taken legal action against several parties involved in the production and licensing of the movie, expressing their commitment to safeguarding the cultural integrity of Isale Eko.
Under the leadership of Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, the IDU aims to continue its mission of preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Isale Eko while addressing the pressing concerns and advocating for the rights of its members within the community.
