Renowned Nollywood actress, Adunni Ade, has finally addressed the allegations of owing her late colleague and director, Murphy Afolabi, the sum of N250,000.

The controversy arose when Murphy Afolabi’s burial committee called out Adunni during the 8-day Fidau Prayer for the late actor, demanding the refund of the alleged debt.

In response to the accusations, Adunni Ade released a public statement, along with her bank account details, denying the claims and providing a detailed account of the situation.

According to the statement, in July 2021, Murphy Afolabi approached Adunni Ade for her services in a self-funded movie production. Due to financial constraints, he couldn’t afford her professional fee but requested her moral support. Adunni agreed to participate, and an honorarium of N150,000 was paid on July 2, 2021.

However, circumstances changed when Adunni experienced a personal tragedy, the loss of her younger brother, shortly before the production was scheduled to begin.

She contacted Murphy Afolabi to refund the money as she would be traveling to the United States for her brother’s funeral. Murphy, on the other hand, suggested holding onto the funds until he determined the future of the project.

On October 8, 2021, Murphy Afolabi approached Adunni again for another project, offering her the lead role for four days with the same payment of N150,000. Adunni declined the offer but promptly refunded the initial amount on the same day.

The actress attached proof of both payments to the statement, refuting any claims of indebtedness to the late Murphy Afolabi.

It is important to note that Murphy Afolabi, a highly respected figure in the Nigerian film industry, tragically passed away on May 14, 2023, following an accident in his bathroom.

As the public awaits further developments, Adunni Ade’s statement aims to provide clarity and set the record straight regarding the alleged debt.
